PROBLEM

Unable to save attribute rule in ArcGIS Pro

Last Published: September 9, 2024

Description

In ArcGIS Pro, attribute rules are used to automate data validation, perform calculations, or enforce constraints to ensure data accuracy and consistency during the creation or editing of features. However, sometimes the rules cannot be saved in ArcGIS Pro after creating or modifying attribute rules.

Cause

  • The feature class does not have Global IDs enabled. When attempting to save an attribute rule for a feature class without Global IDs, the following error message is returned: "002710: Attribute rule requires a Global ID field."
  • The feature class contains conflicting attribute rules, which lead to validation issues.
  • Another device or user is currently accessing the same data and has applied a lock, preventing simultaneous changes.

Solution or Workaround

Based on the cause, use one of the following options to save the attribute rule in ArcGIS Pro.

Enable Global IDs

  1. In ArcGIS Pro, right-click the feature class in the Catalog pane. Click Manage.
  2. In the Feature Class Properties window, check the Global IDs check box. Click OK.

Ensure the correct type of attribute rules are used

Refer to ArcGIS Pro: Rule types for more information on using the correct rule type when using multiple attribute rules on a feature class.

Apply an exclusive lock on the dataset

Close the other project running the same dataset. Then, open the dataset in Edit mode to lock the data for exclusive editing. Refer to ArcGIS Pro: Manage locks for more information.
