URL copied Share URL
  1. [map projections] A compromise projection that is not equal area, conformal, nor equidistant, but rather minimizes all three forms of geometric distortion. Constructed as a mathematical combination of two existing projections; proposed by German cartographer Oswald Winkel (1874–1953) in 1921.
