  1. [coordinate systems] Acronym for well-known text. A standard text representation format that is used to provide a complete definition of a coordinate reference system or a spatial reference system. A WKT follows a specific syntax and includes information such as the coordinate system, datum, WKID and authority, and units. While a WKID is used to identify known, predefined coordinate reference systems, a WKT can be used to share customized coordinate reference systems within a GIS.
