  1. [data management] The ordering, scaling, or grouping of data into classes to simplify features and their attributes.
  2. [cartography] The process of sorting or arranging entities into groups or categories; on a map, the process of representing members of a group by the same symbol, usually defined in a legend.
  3. [photogrammetry] In imagery, the computational process of assigning pixels or objects to a set of categories, or classes, which share common spectral, shape, elevation, or other characteristics.
