  1. [network analysis] An entity that prevents flow from traversing a network edge or junction.
  2. [spatial analysis] A line feature used to keep certain points from being used in the calculation of new values when a raster is interpolated. The line can represent a cliff, ridge, or some other interruption in the landscape. Only the sample points on the same side of the barrier as the current processing cell will be considered.
  3. [network analysis, Esri software] For geometric networks, a temporary graphic that is placed on the network, past which a trace cannot continue.
