  1. [digital image processing] A digital image-processing technique that enhances the spectral difference between electromagnetic bands by dividing the measure of reflectance for a pixel in one image band by its geometrically corresponding pixel from another image band. The resulting image is also called the band ratio. Commonly used to mitigate illumination effects in terrain variation or to enhance phenomenon in objects of interest.
