[remote sensing]
A wavelength range in the spectrum of reflected or radiated electromagnetic (EM) energy to which a remote sensor is sensitive. For example, red, green, and blue are the bands used by a digital camera; the red band collects light from approximately 625-740 nanometers. Once a sensor collects data from a band, it stores the data in a file or portion of a file devoted to that range, which is also referred to as a band. Also commonly known as a spectral band.
