Test a GPS connection using HyperTerminal

Procedure

Follow the steps below for GPS connection tests.

  1. Open HyperTerminal:

    Start > Programs > Accessories > HyperTerminal

    or

    Start > Programs > Accessories > Communications > HyperTerminal.
  2. Enter 'GPS Connect' for the connection name and select an icon. Click OK.

  3. Select the COM port where the GPS will connect. Click OK.

  4. Set the Baud Rate, Parity, and Stop bits to match the GPS receiver settings. Click OK.

  5. Verify data is being received from the GPS receiver in the HyperTerminal window. ASCII NMEA sentences should be legible. No data displayed or illegible information indicates a connection problem to the GPS receiver.
