Esri® announces the ArcGIS for Desktop and ArcReader Runtime Error R6034 Patch. This patch addresses the issue of certain ArcGIS applications showing a Runtime Error R6034 message. It deals specifically with the issue listed below under Issues Addressed with this patch.
- BUG-000096226 - ArcGIS applications return a "Runtime Error R6034" when trying to load Python _ctypes.pyd or any other DLL that loads CRT9 without a manifest dependency entry.
Description: Certain ArcGIS 10.4 applications show a Runtime Error R6034 message. This error may come from ArcCatalog.exe, ArcReader.exe, DesktopIndexingService.exe, or MXDDoctor.exe. It occurs most frequently when opening the Search window in ArcCatalog or when DesktopIndexingService begins to index folders in the background. The full message appears as follows:
"Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library"
An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly.

ArcGIS 10.4 or 10.4.1 for Desktop or ArcReader must be installed before installing this patch.
- Download the appropriate file to a location other than your ArcGIS installation location.
- Make sure you have write access to your ArcGIS installation location.
- Double-click ArcGIS-<Version>-<Product>-RER-Patch.msp to start the setup process.
NOTE: If double clicking on the MSP file does not start the setup installation, you can start the setup installation manually by using the following command:
msiexec.exe /p [location of Patch]\ArcGIS-<Version>-<Product>-RER-Patch.msp

July 6, 2016: The ArcGIS 10.4 version for ArcGIS for Desktop and ArcReader are now available for download.
To determine which ArcGIS products are installed, choose the appropriate version of the PatchFinder utility for your environment and run it from your local machine. PatchFinder will list all products, hot fixes, and patches installed on your local machine.
