Census 2020 Methodology Statement


2020 Census data for the United States and Puerto Rico. Census data is updated every 10 years and represents a complete count of the population. Census demographics are point estimates, representing April 1 of the census year.

The United States Census is a once-a-decade exercise to capture a snapshot of the nation’s population “once, only once, and in the right place.” The national head count is always a complex endeavor; however, the 2020 Census was like no other decennial census.
