View TIFF images in Microsoft Document Imaging (MDI) generated by sderaster

Summary

TIFF files written by sderaster store data from a different band separately, instead of interleaved by pixel. Microsoft Office Document Imaging uses Microsoft Document Imaging Format, a file format based on the Tagged Image File Format (TIFF) that is designed to store images by page layout.

The sderaster command writes a valid TIFF format that can be read by most TIFF readers; however, Microsoft Document Imaging cannot read TIFF files that are formatted this way.

ArcSDE software, including the application server, command tools, and SDK with C and Java APIs, was deprecated at ArcGIS 10.2.2 and is no longer distributed. ArcGIS software features were deprecated, rather than immediately removed, to provide customers with backward compatibility and give as much advance notice as possible to adopt newer technology.

Procedure

Instructions provided describe how to view TIFF images generated by the sderaster command in Microsoft Document Imaging.

1. Load the TIFF image into ArcMap/ArcCatalog.
2. Right-click the image and select Export Data to export the TIFF file to a TIFF with another name. Make sure the exported format is TIFF.

Note:
tiffcp (a tool that comes from the libtiff.org library) can also be used to change the pixel layout from separate to interleaved.
