This error may occur when working with the Create Report option in ArcMap. The full error message is provided below.

Cause

The error may occur when selecting to sort the inputs from the selected report source, such as an Excel spreadsheet, if it does not contain an ObjectID field.

Solution or Workaround

If the report requires the data to be sorted, the input data source must contain an ObjectID field. To add an ObjectID field, convert the input table to an ArcGIS format.

The table can be converted to an ArcGIS format using the Table to Table geoprocessing tool in Conversion Tools > To Geodatabase or the Excel to Table tool in Conversion Tools > Excel.
