Start and stop ArcGIS Server machines using the ArcGIS Server Administrator Directory

Summary

It is possible to start and stop ArcGIS Server machines added to an ArcGIS Server site, and this action may also be necessary when a hard reset is required to troubleshoot issues with the server. There are multiple ways to start and stop the server. These include using Task Manager to stop the ArcGIS Server service on the Services tab, by running a script, or using the ArcGIS Server Administrator.

This article describes the steps to start and stop ArcGIS Server machines using the ArcGIS Server Administrator Directory.

Procedure

Note:
The following procedure may require the assistance of an IT personnel or members with administrator privileges.
Note:
When a server machine is stopped, it can no longer run GIS services. Ensure there are no current operations being run by all available users within the organization before proceeding.
Note:
When stopping the server, pause for 25-30 seconds before restarting the server. This ensures all the processes have properly shutdown for the server to restart.
  1. On the server machine, navigate and log in to the ArcGIS Server Administrator Directory using the following URL:
<machine>.<domain>.com/<webadaptorname>/admin
  1. On the ArcGIS Server Administrator Directory page, under Resources, click machines.

  1. On the Registered Machines page, click the ArcGIS Server machine listed under Machines.

  1. Under Supported Operations, click start or stop to start or stop the ArcGIS Server machine.
