HOW TO

Identify the X, Y, and Z information for each vertex in a multipatch in ArcGIS Pro

Last Published: July 18, 2024

Summary

In ArcGIS Pro, 3D multipatches are used to show a more accurate representation of buildings for a 3D scene. Precisely identifying the X, Y, and Z coordinates for each vertices with different roof elevation or height of the multipatch feature surface can be visually difficult and time consuming when large amount of vertices are involved. This article highlights the workflow on how to convert each vertices of a multipatch feature into points and add the X, Y, and Z coordinate information.

Procedure

  1. In ArcGIS Pro, convert the multipatch feature into a point feature using the Feature Vertices To Points (Data Management) tool. Refer to ArcGIS Pro: Feature Vertices To Points (Data Management) for more information.
Configuring the Feature Vertices To Points tool.
  1. Run the Add XY Coordinates tool on the newly created point feature to add the POINT_X, POINT_Y, and POINT_Z fields to the point input features. Refer to ArcGIS Pro: Add XY Coordinates (Data Management) for more information.
  2. On the map, click any point of the point feature to examine the X, Y, and Z values for the corresponding points.
