HOW TO

Edit the Web Adaptor URL for Portal for ArcGIS and ArcGIS Server

Last Published: December 8, 2023

Summary

ArcGIS Web Adaptor allows integrating ArcGIS Server with an organization’s web server, securing the URL used to access the services in ArcGIS Enterprise. On certain occasions, after configuring ArcGIS Web Adaptor with the ArcGIS Enterprise deployment, the URL used to access the services must be edited to meet the requirements of the organization. This article provides the workflow to edit the Web Adaptor URL for Portal for ArcGIS and ArcGIS Server.

Procedure

Note:
Adding a DNS alias or reverse proxy after an ArcGIS Server site has been federated with the portal is not supported. If the host name must be changed in the organization URL, contact Esri Consulting Services for assistance.

Unfederating an ArcGIS Server site has several significant consequences and is not easily performed. Refer to Portal for ArcGIS: Unfederate a server from the portal for information.

For Portal for ArcGIS

  1. Log in to the ArcGIS Portal Administrator Directory with administrator credentials.
  2. Navigate to Home > System > Web Adaptors.
  3. Click the Web Adaptor name under Web Adaptors.
  4. In the browser’s address bar, append /edit to the URL, as shown below, and press Enter.
https://<webadaptorhost>.<domain>.com/<webadaptorname>/portaladmin/system/webadaptors/<webadaptorID>/edit

  1. On the Edit Web Adaptor page, edit the URL in the Web Adaptor URL parameter.
  2. Click Edit Web Adaptor.
Note:
This workflow automatically restarts Portal for ArcGIS after Edit Web Adaptor is clicked. Allow up to 10 minutes for Portal for ArcGIS to start. Esri recommends proceeding after the specified duration.

For ArcGIS Server

  1. On the ArcGIS Server machine, unregister ArcGIS Web Adaptor from ArcGIS Server.
  2. Reconfigure ArcGIS Web Adaptor to ArcGIS Server with the required changes to the URL. Refer to ArcGIS Enterprise: Configure ArcGIS Web Adaptor for instructions.
