Answer
ArcGIS Server administrators must sometimes restart a service, so it is important to view the number of users online or using the live mobile app (for example, Collector for ArcGIS or Survey123 for ArcGIS) to avoid complications. However, it is not possible to determine the number of users in ArcGIS Server in real time. As a workaround, choose one of the following options:
- Use server statistics total requests
Refer to ArcGIS Server: Work with server statistics for steps to do this. The image below shows an example of the Statistics tab in ArcGIS Server Manager. It is possible for administrators to view the total number of requests made by a client to a service in the past 24 hours from the statistics, and determine the maximum and minimum request time.
- Use server logs to records events that occur and any errors associated with those events
Refer to ArcGIS Server: Work with server logs for steps to do this. The information in the Logs page (image) shows user activities, and includes a history of the events that occur over time. Administrators are able to determine the latest activities in the service, and monitor or troubleshoot problems on the site from the Time column in the logs table.
- Use editor tracking for feature services to record who adds or edits the data through the feature service, and when the latest edit was made
Based on the volume of edits over time, administrator can track the last edit date and the creation date. This helps in identifying trends and determining peak periods of service usage.
- Integrate Workforce for ArcGIS and Collector for ArcGIS
View the assignments in progress and completed in Workforce for ArcGIS to approximately determine when and where users are on the field. This function is helpful for administrators to track the number of users who have used the service.
- Use the Tracker for ArcGIS application
This app is practical for decision-makers to gain real-time information that supports critical field activities, and it allows administrators to track workers on the field. Additionally, the Track Viewer web app can be used to manage the security of tracking locations, which includes determining last known locations.
