XLDateAmbiguous: 1.0. Failed to execute (ExcelToTable)

Error Message

In ArcMap, running the Excel to Table tool fails and returns the following error message:

XLDateAmbiguous: 1.0. Failed to execute (ExcelToTable).

Cause

The error is related to the date systems in Microsoft Excel. Refer to Microsoft: Differences between the 1900 and the 1904 date system in Excel for more information.

Solution or Workaround

To resolve this issue:

1. Open the document in Excel.
2. Click File > Options > Advanced.
3. In the Advanced pane, navigate to the When calculating this workbook: section and enable the Use 1904 date System option. Click OK and save the document as a new file.

4. In ArcMap, use the file from step 3 with the Excel to Table tool.
