In ArcGIS Pro, when attempting to publish a hosted feature layer to ArcGIS Online, the following error message is returned:
00241 Field <field_name> cannot be used for symbology
An unsupported area or length field is used for the feature layer’s symbology.
Solution or Workaround
In ArcGIS Pro, ensure the area or length field is not selected on the Primary symbology and Vary symbology by attribute tabs in the Symbology pane.
- Open the ArcGIS Pro project.
- In the Contents pane, browse to and right-click the layer. Select Symbology.
- In the Symbology pane, on the Primary symbology tab, select a supported field for the symbology type. In this example, the Name field is selected for the Unique Values symbology.
- In the Symbology pane, on the Vary symbology by attribute tab, expand Transparency, Color, and Outline Width, and select <None> or a supported field for Field and Normalization.
