DEPRECATION
Following the deprecation announcement of the SDEBINARY type in 2020, this is a notice that ArcGIS Desktop 10.8.x (ArcMap and ArcCatalog) and ArcGIS Enterprise 10.9.1, are the last releases to support creating binary spatial types in Oracle and SQL Server. Binary spatial types include, SDELOB, SDEBINARY, and OGCWKB.
Though creating binary feature classes is not supported in ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Enterprise 11.x, these releases support viewing and editing existing binary feature classes.
Beginning in 2028, new versions of ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Enterprise:
We strongly encourage customers to migrate existing binary feature classes to supported SQL spatial types at the earliest possible time. Future development work is exclusively focused on the SQL spatial types. Functionality, such as non-versioned archiving, branch versioning, utility network, and parcel fabric datasets created using ArcGIS Pro, are only supported on SQL spatial types. SQL spatial types, which store spatial data directly in the shape column, have been the default for Oracle (ST_Geometry) since ArcGIS 9.2 and SQL Server (Geometry) since ArcGIS 10.1.
Note: The following geometry storage types have been deprecated in ArcGIS Pro: • SDEBINARY • SDELOB • WKB_GEOMETRY You may view data with these geometry storage types, but you cannot create new data using these storage types.
