PROBLEM
When editing shapefiles or geodatabase feature classes, ArcMap may crash without any error message if any component of Mapping and Charting Solutions, an ArcGIS extension, is installed.
The CATID folder is created on the computer by ArcGIS for Desktop if any plugins or applications are installed for ArcGIS for Desktop. These may be generated by third-party plugins, or by Esri extensions. The CATID folder contains files with the ECFG extension, which initialize the application or extension when ArcMap is started.
The ECFG file named {89f00DB0-3173-4786-A3E7-55D6034CC99E}_symbolizerepslib.ecfg in the CATID folder may cause this crashing situation.
Use one of the following solutions to resolve this issue:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\ArcGIS\Desktop10.x\Configuration\CATID▪ 64-bit:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\ArcGIS\Desktop10.x\Configuration\CATIDFor ArcGIS for Desktop versions 10.3 and 10.3.1:
