  1. [digital image processing] A method that uses principal component analysis and a linear rotation of multispectral image bands to yield transformed bands, commonly defined as brightness, greenness, wetness, and subsequent noise bands such as clouds and haze. This index is used especially in the analysis of vegetation growth cycles, soil characterization, and urban development. Also known as the Kauth-Thomas transformation.
