  1. [database structures] In a geodatabase, a subset of features in a feature class or objects in a table that share the same attributes. For example, the streets in a street feature class can be divided into three subtypes: local streets, collector streets, and arterial streets. Each subtype has unique attribute values or behavior and shares the values and behavior of the street feature class. Subtypes are used to simplify data editing and improve the geodatabase's performance.
