An abbreviation of pseudo-random noise. A unique digital sequence broadcast by a GPS satellite that is used to calculate precise distances. A PRN signal can be reproduced exactly but appears to be randomly distributed like noise. Each Navstar satellite has a unique PRN code. It is sometimes also known as a pseudo-random number in this context, used to identify individual satellites.
