prediction standard error

URL copied Share URL
  1. [spatial statistics (use for geostatistics)] A value quantifying the uncertainty of a prediction; mathematically, the square-root of the prediction variance. (The prediction variance is the variation associated with the difference between the true and predicted value.) As a rule, 95 percent of the time the true value will lie within the predicted value plus or minus two times the prediction standard error if data is normally distributed. Media/kriging.gif
