  1. [Euclidean geometry] The quantity associated with length or area within a two-dimensional plane. Planar measurements are limited to objects or shapes that can be represented in two dimensions; they do not account for depth or volume. When using geographic coordinates, planar measurements must cut through the center of the curved surface of the earth, which diminishes accuracy.
