A band of the electromagnetic spectrum that has wavelengths in the 700 to 1100 nm range, varying slightly based on the technology and application. Near infrared is reflected light, and is used in remote sensing analysis of vegetation (high reflectivity) and in detecting water bodies (high absorbtion).
