Abbreviated as MGRS. A grid cell location system used by North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) nations. Shortens the lengthier numeric coordinates and numeric grid zone specifications typical of other grid systems by providing single alphanumeric substitutions for strings of alphanumeric characters.
