feature displacement

URL copied Share URL
  1. [map design] The movement of features that would otherwise overprint or conflict with other features. For example, if a river, a road, and a railway run through a narrow valley, it is necessary, at some scales, to displace at least one of the features that represent them on the map to keep their symbols distinct.
