  1. [coordinate systems] Acronym for European Datum of 1950. A datum created after World War II to be a consistent reference datum for most of Western Europe; however, Belgium, France, Great Britain, Ireland, Sweden, Switzerland, and the Netherlands continue to retain and use their own national datums. Latitude and longitude coordinates in this datum are based on the International Ellipsoid of 1924.
