  1. [spatial statistics (use for geostatistics)] The measurement of the intensity or concentration of a particular phenomenon within a given area. Density is a spatial analysis technique used to understand the distribution and pattern of features or events across a geographic area.
  2. [physics] In a substance such as a gas, solid, or liquid, a measurement of the ratio of mass to volume.
  3. [spatial analysis] A function that distributes the quantity or magnitude of point or line observations over a unit of area to create a continuous raster—for example, population per square kilometer.
