brightness theme

  1. [data models] In ArcGIS spatial analysis and data modeling, a grid theme whose cell values are used to vary the brightness of another grid theme. The cell values in one grid can be visually plotted against those in another. Most commonly, hillshade grids are used as brightness themes for elevation grids. The effect is to display the elevation surface in relief.
