ArcSDE 10.2.2 Oracle Geodatabase Object Schema Update and Editing Patch

Summary

This patch resolves a critical issue where users are unable to create new feature classes or modify their existing schema on Oracle geodatabases that have existed at 10.0 at some point: Oracle geodatabases that were upgraded from a previous release to ArcGIS 10.0, or Oracle geodatabases created with the ArcGIS 10.0 release.

Description

EsriĀ® announces the ArcSDE 10.2.2 Oracle Geodatabase Object Schema Update and Editing Patch. This patch resolves a critical issue where users are unable to create new feature classes or modify their existing schema on Oracle geodatabases that have existed at 10.0 at some point: Oracle geodatabases that were upgraded from a previous release to ArcGIS 10.0, or Oracle geodatabases created with the ArcGIS 10.0 release. Please see Knowledge Base - Technical Article 42335 for more information. It deals specifically with the issues listed below under Issues Addressed with this Patch.

 

Issues Addressed with this patch

  • NIM099594 - The following Oracle errors: ORA-29877, ORA-20085 and ORA-06512, are encountered when attempting to make object schema changes, spatial index changes, add Global IDs, register data as versioned (Register as Versioned tool), or create a raster dataset in ArcCatalog after upgrading certain ArcSDE 10.0 Oracle geodatabases.

Installing this patch on Windows

Installation Notes:

System Administrators: A technical paper is available that discusses the enterprise deployment of ArcGIS 10.2.2 setups using Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS), System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), and Group Policy, including additional system requirements, suggestions, known issues, and Microsoft Software Installation (MSI) command line parameters. Deployment in a lockdown environment is also covered. ArcGIS 10.2.2 Enterprise Deployment.

Installation Steps:

ArcSDE 10.2.2 must be installed before installing this patch.

  1. Choose the appropriate setup for your environment and place it into a location other than the installation location.
  2. Stop your current ArcSDE service, if one is running.

    % sdemon -o shutdown


    NOTE: If you do not shut down the ArcSDE service before installing this Service Pack, you will be prompted and required to reboot your server machine to successfully complete the Service Pack installation. Stopping the ArcSDE service allows you to avoid rebooting the server machine.

  3. Double-click the ArcGIS-1022-SDE-OGOSUE-Patch-<Database>.msp to start the install process.

    NOTE: If double clicking on the MSP file does not start the setup installation, you can start the setup installation manually by using the following command:

    c:\msiexec.exe /p [location of Patch]\ArcGIS-1022-SDE-OGOSUE-Patch-<Database>.msp
  4. When the Setup installation wizard starts, follow the instructions on your screen.
  5. Start your service again.

    % sdemon -o start

  6. If you have more than one ArcSDE Application Server, perform steps 2, 3, 4 and 5 for each one.

 

Installing this patch on Linux / Unix

Installation Steps:

Complete the following install steps as the ArcGIS Install owner. The Install owner is the owner of the arcgis folder.

ArcSDE 10.2.2 must be installed before installing this patch.

  1. Choose the appropriate setup for your environment and place it into a location other than the installation location.
  2. Stop your current ArcSDE service, if one is running.

    % sdemon -o shutdown

    NOTE (IBM AIX only): You must remove any inactive libraries that are loaded into memory before proceeding to the next step. Not doing so will result in an installation error. To remove them, as ROOT user, type:

    # /usr/sbin/slibclean

    (Optional) To list the libraries loaded into memory, as ROOT user, type:

    # /usr/sbin/genkld

    For further information on the slibclean and genkld commands please refer to your AIX system administrator documentation.

  3. Extract the specified tar file by typing:

     

    % tar -<options> ArcGIS-1022-SDE-OGOSUE-Patch-<Database>-<Platform>.tar

  4. Start the installation with the applypatch command:

    % ./applypatch

    This starts the dialog for the menu-driven installation procedure. Default selections are noted in parentheses ( ). To quit the installation procedure, type 'q' at any time.

  5. Start your service again.

    % sdemon -o start

  6. If you have more than one ArcSDE Application Server, perform steps 2, 3, 4 and 5 for each one.
