PROBLEM

Incorrect number of user types displayed in the ArcGIS Enterprise portal

Last Published: March 20, 2025

Description

In the ArcGIS Enterprise portal, the total number of user types displayed does not match the number of subscribed user type licenses. In some instances, the available user types are displayed as negative values.

The incorrect number of user types displayed in the ArcGIS Enterprise portal

Cause

There are multiple active license files created for the ArcGIS Enterprise portal in My Esri. Importing a new file into the portal overwrites the existing one, causing an incorrect number of user types to be displayed. For a single deployment, only one license file is required; all subscribed user types, user type extensions, and add-on apps must be included in the file.

If a new license file is created while the existing file remains active, only additional user types can be added to it. Furthermore, if a license subscription is renewed without additional user types, those user types become disabled and cannot be added to the new license file, as they remain tied to the active file until it expires and is canceled.

Solution or Workaround

To display the correct numbers of subscribed user types in the ArcGIS Enterprise portal, follow the steps below.

Note:
This workflow only applies to ArcGIS Enterprise 10.7 and later. For earlier versions, cancel all license files in My Esri and create a new license file with all subscribed licenses. Refer to ArcGIS Enterprise: Obtain a portal license file from My Esri for instructions to create a license file.
  1. In My Esri, cancel the old license file to return all existing user types, user type extensions, and add-on apps to My Esri. Refer to How To: Cancel license files for Portal for ArcGIS in My Esri for instructions.
  2. Edit the new license file to include the returned licenses from Step 1, then import it to the ArcGIS Enterprise portal. Refer to How To: Edit license files in My Esri for Portal for ArcGIS 10.7 and later versions for instructions.
