ArcGIS Online: Error creating report; try again later

Error Message

When attempting to generate detailed reports on the status dashboard in ArcGIS Online by selecting the Start and End dates, the following error is returned:

Error creating report; please try again later.

Cause

The web browser client request times out because processing the request takes longer due to the large amounts of usage data. This is a known limitation, as addressed in BUG-000143898.

Solution or Workaround

Generate reports using ArcGIS API for Python

Generate ArcGIS Online items reports using ArcGIS API for Python. Refer to the Generate the report for all items in ArcGIS Online section in How To: Generate a report of all items in Portal for ArcGIS and ArcGIS Online for instructions.

Generate reports with a shorter duration

Alternatively, for organizations with large amounts of usage data, generate usage reports on the Status dashboard by selecting a shorter duration. Refer to ArcGIS Online: View and report status for more information and instructions.

Generate activity reports

Only the default administrator or a member with administrative privileges can perform the following workaround.
