Unable to open a hosted feature layer view in ArcGIS Online Map Viewer

Description

A hosted feature layer view is created so hosted feature layer data can be viewed through different settings, such as the editor settings, styles, definitions, or filters. In some instances, opening the hosted feature layer view in ArcGIS Online Map Viewer returns the following warning message:

Warning:   
The layer, <layer name>, did not draw completely.
An image of the layer warning message.

Attempts to display the layer's filter return the following warning message:

Warning:   
Unable to display the current filter
An image of the filter warning message.

Opening the attribute table returns the following error message:

Error:   
Accessing data failed
An image of the error message.

The network traffic displays the following error:

Error:   
{"error":{"code":400,"message":"Cannot perform query. Invalid query parameters.","details":["'Invalid field: FIELDNAME' parameter is invalid"]}}

Cause

ArcGIS Online Map Viewer is unable to find features from the filtered field(s) settings of the hosted feature layer view display. This issue occurs when the filtered field(s) options in the Set View Definition configuration settings are disabled.

Solution or Workaround

Enable the field(s) set as the filter of the hosted feature layer view.

  1. In ArcGIS Online, click the Content tab.
  2. In My Content, click the hosted feature layer view to open the item details page, and click the Visualization tab.
  3. Click the More Options The More Options button. button, and navigate to Set View Definition > Define Fields.
  4. In the Define Fields window, select the field(s) used in the filter, and click Apply.

  1. Reopen the hosted feature layer view in Map Viewer. The view is displayed in Map Viewer without the warning and error messages.

Note:
Applying a filter that does not return any results in the hosted feature layer view may return the same error messages. To avoid this, only apply a filter if it return results in the hosted feature layer view.
