PROBLEM

Attribute fields with attribute rules are not preserved when published to ArcGIS Online

Last Published: September 12, 2024

Description

In ArcGIS Pro, feature layers with attribute rules can be published to ArcGIS Online to improve the editing experience and geodatabase dataset integrity. However, when the visibility of attribute fields with attribute rules is disabled before publishing to ArcGIS Online to avoid displaying unnecessary information, the hidden attribute fields from the published feature layer are not preserved.

The image below shows the available attribute fields for the feature layer in ArcGIS Pro before the Location field is hidden.

Cause

When a feature layer is published, the attribute fields containing attribute rules or contingent values cannot be hidden. All fields must be visible, as hidden fields are not preserved when published to ArcGIS Online.

Solution or Workaround

To solve this, enable the visibility of the attribute fields in ArcGIS Pro and disable the visibility of the attribute fields in ArcGIS Online.

  1. Open the project in ArcGIS Pro.
  2. Enable the visibility of all attribute fields in the feature layer.
    1. In the Contents pane, open the Fields view for the feature layer.
    2. In the Fields view, check the Visible check box for all fields to display the attribute fields.
    3. On the Fields tab, in the Manage Edits group, click Save.
  3. Publish the feature layer to ArcGIS Online as a hosted feature layer. Refer to ArcGIS Pro: Share a web feature layer using the default configuration for instructions.
  4. In ArcGIS Online, disable the visibility of the desired attribute fields for the hosted feature layer. Refer to How To: Hide fields in a hosted feature layer in ArcGIS Online for instructions.
