ArcGIS Pro: Unable to publish hosted layers to the ArcGIS Enterprise portal

Description

In ArcGIS Pro, attempting to publish hosted layers to a federated ArcGIS Enterprise portal fails and returns the generic error message below.

Cause

  • The federated server is not configured as a hosting server in the ArcGIS Enterprise portal. Configuring a hosting server is required to publish hosted layers. Refer to Portal for ArcGIS: Prerequisites to publish hosted layers for more information.
  • The data stores are not validated in ArcGIS Server Manager.
  • The ArcGIS Server or ArcGIS Data Store service is not running.

Solution or Workaround

Configure the hosting server

In the ArcGIS Enterprise portal, configure the federated server as a hosting server. Refer to Portal for ArcGIS: Specify the hosting server for instructions.

Validate the data stores in ArcGIS Server Manager

In ArcGIS Server Manager, validate the registered data stores to ensure the connection is established. Refer to ArcGIS Server: Validate data stores for instructions.

Restart the ArcGIS Server or ArcGIS Data Store service

On the ArcGIS Server or ArcGIS Data Store machine, restart the service.

  1. On the machine, search for and select Services in the search bar.
  2. In the Services window, right-click the ArcGIS Server or ArcGIS Data Store service and select Restart if the service is already running. If not, select Start.
