Error Message

Attempting to launch ArcMap fails and the following error message is returned:

The ArcGIS Desktop Advanced license is in need of a repair operation.
Please access the ArcGIS Administrator to repair your licenses.

Cause

The license in the trusted storage becomes untrusted due to changes made in the machine configuration. This can happen when moving license files from one machine to another, and the Unique Machine Numbers (UMNs) are changed. The licenses are no longer recognized as they are tied to the UMNs of the old machine.

Solution or Workaround

1. Clear the trusted storage for the license. Refer to How To: Clear or delete trusted storage for concurrent-use and single-use licenses for steps to do this.
2. Recover the lost license. Refer to How To: Recover lost licenses from My Esri for steps to do this.
3. Reauthorize the license. Refer to How To: Authorize ArcGIS Desktop 10 Single Use online for steps to do this.
