A statistical region in the United States that contains at least one core urban area with a population between 10,000 and 50,000 and the adjacent communities that are economically and socially integrated with the core area. Micropolitan statistical areas are defined by the U.S. Office of Management and Budget for use by federal statistical agencies, including the U.S. Census Bureau.
