Unable to create new ArcGIS Insights workbooks using an ArcGIS Online account

Description

When accessing the ArcGIS Insights page with an ArcGIS Online account, the option to create new workbooks is unavailable on the Workbooks tab.

Cause

• The organization member’s user type, default, or custom role has insufficient privileges to create content in ArcGIS Insights.
• The ArcGIS Insights add-on license is not assigned to the organization member.
• ArcGIS Insights is accessed through an ArcGIS Online trial account. The ArcGIS Insights license is not included in the ArcGIS Online trial account.

Solution or Workaround

Depending on the cause, use one of the following options to resolve the issue.

Only ArcGIS Online organization administrators can perform the following workflows.

Update the member’s user type, default role, or custom role to enable the privilege to create content in ArcGIS Insights

• Assign the required user type and default role to the organization member to create new workbooks in ArcGIS Insights. Refer to ArcGIS Online: Manage members for instructions and more information.
• Update the member’s custom role to enable the Create, update, and delete and Publish hosted feature layers options in the General privileges settings. Refer to ArcGIS Online: Configure member roles for more information.

Assign the ArcGIS Insights add-on license to the member

By default, the ArcGIS Insights add-on license is not included in the Creator or GIS Professional user type. To create new workbooks in ArcGIS Insights, organization administrators or members with licensing privileges must manually assign the ArcGIS Insights add-on license to the member.
