Problem: Unable to save a Web Map without Creating a New Copy in ArcGIS Online Map Viewer

Description

In ArcGIS Online, a member of an organization is able to edit the content owned by other organization members. However, in some instances, when attempting to save the modifications made on a web map in Map Viewer, the 'Save map' window is displayed and selecting 'Save map' results in a new web map being created in the member's folder.

The Save map window is displayed in Map Viewer when attempting to save the edits made.

A copy of the web map is created in the user's folder under My Content on the Content tab after selecting 'Save map' on the 'Save map' window in Map Viewer.

Cause

The member does not have the administrator privilege to update content within the organization.

Solution or Workaround

Use one of the options below to resolve the issue.

Note:
Only administrators can perform the following workflows.

Change the member’s role to an administrative role

Change the member’s role to Administrator to enable access to administrative privileges. Refer to ArcGIS Online: Change member roles for the steps to do so.

Under Role, click the drop-down button and select Administrator to change the role for the selected member. Access this setting by navigating to the Organization tab in ArcGIS Online, and select the Members tab.

Create a custom role with the administrative privilege to update content

Configure a custom role and enable the Update option in the Administrative privileges settings. Refer to ArcGIS Online: Configure member roles for the steps to do so.
