The error message

Cause

  • Browser cache is preventing enabling location sharing.
  • There is an existing location sharing or location tracking layer in the organization.

Solution or Workaround

Depending on the cause, use one of the two workarounds below to resolve the issue.

Clear the browser cache

Refer to Google Account Help: Clear cache & cookies for instructions to clear the cache from the Google Chrome browser.

Alternatively, refer to How to clear the Firefox cache or Delete cache and cookies in the new Microsoft Edge for instructions to clear the cache from the Mozilla Firefox or Microsoft Edge browser.

Note:
Only the administrator who previously enabled the location sharing can complete the steps below.

Delete the existing location sharing or location tracking layer in the organization

  1. Open the ArcGIS REST Services Directory page of the layer.
Note:
The following is an example of the structure of the service URL:
https://locationservices<X>.arcgis.com/<ORGID>/arcgis/rest/services/location_tracking/FeatureServer

'X' is the number that comes after the organization service URLs, and 'ORG ID' is the respective organization ID. A token is required to access the feature service ArcGIS REST Services Directory page. Refer to Problem: Unable to access ArcGIS REST Services Directory page of an ArcGIS Online item for instructions on generating and appending a token to the URL.
  1. In the ArcGIS REST Services Directory window, copy the item ID of the feature layer listed in Service ItemId.
  2. In ArcGIS Online, on the top pane, click the Search icon and paste the copied item ID.
  3. Click the layer and click View details to open the item page of the layer.
  4. Delete the location sharing layer. Refer to ArcGIS Online: Delete operations and layer dependencies for more information.
  5. Enable location sharing in ArcGIS Online. Refer to ArcGIS Online: Enable location sharing for more information.
