The Clip tool generates empty output in ArcGIS Pro

Description

In ArcGIS Pro, running the Clip tool generates an empty output, and returns the following warning message:

Warning:
WARNING 000117: Warning empty output generated 
Empty output generated by the Clip tool

Cause

  • The layer contains broken geometry.
  • The desired point layer falls outside of the polygon layer when clipping the layers.
Point layer falls outside of the polygon layer

Solution or Workaround

Depending on the cause, use either one of the following solutions:

Repair broken geometry before using the Clip tool

  1. In ArcGIS Pro, navigate to View > Geoprocessing.

  1. In the Geoprocessing pane, search for the Repair Geometry tool in the search box.

  1. Specify the geometry layer for Input Features. Click Run.

Ensure the geometry layer overlaps one another

To circumvent the error, ensure the features in the desired layers overlap one another. The following image shows an example of the overlapped features from different layers.
