PROBLEM

Callout label symbology is not retained in an ArcGIS Enterprise portal

Last Published: March 21, 2025

Description

When publishing a layer with callout label symbology from ArcGIS Pro to an ArcGIS Enterprise portal, the symbols are not displayed as expected. Callout elements, such as leader lines and text placement, may be missing or altered, resulting in a different visual representation than in ArcGIS Pro.

The map below shows the feature layer without the callout label symbology in the Enterprise portal.

Cause

Feature layers in an ArcGIS Enterprise portal do not fully support advanced symbology, unlike ArcGIS Pro. Feature layers in an Enterprise portal are optimized for web rendering, which limits support for dynamic text placement, leader lines, and other callout properties.

Solution or Workaround

Publish the layer with the callout label symbology as a map image layer instead of a feature layer. This preserves callout properties and ensures the correct visual representation. Refer to ArcGIS Pro: Share a map image layer using the default configuration for instructions.
