Last Published: May 15, 2025

Description

When trying to access an existing project in the ArcGIS Workforce Web app. the following error is returned:

Unable to open project

When trying to create a new project in the ArcGIS Workforce Web app, an error message similar to the following is returned:

Unable to create project.
Create Service error: Failed to create the service 'Hosted/workforce_88181ac71e354653b91a2180634ccbf2.FeatureServer

Cause

In a federated environment, the ArcGIS Workforce project is created as a hosted item stored in the relational datastore. These errors occur when the relational datastore fails to validate, preventing the creation of new projects and making existing projects inaccessible.

Solution or Workaround

Follow the below checks:

  1. Check if the ArcGIS Data Store service is in stopped mode.
  2. Restart the ArcGIS Data Store service from the Windows Services console.
  3. Implement the required permissions over the ArcGIS Data Store site directory and installation directory to the account running the ArcGIS Data Store Windows service.
  4. Restart the machine where ArcGIS Data Store is installed.

Once the relational datastore starts validating in the ArcGIS Server Manager page or Admin endpoint, ArcGIS Workforce works as expected.
