Service failed to start. Error: Server environment property not found: requestProperties

Last Published: August 12, 2022

Error Message

Attempts to start a geocode service in ArcGIS Server Manager fail with the following error message returned:

Error:
Service failed to start. Error: Server environment property not found: requestProperties

Cause

  • The geocode service has an outdated source data or is corrupt. This may happen when ArcGIS Enterprise is upgraded to a newer version.
  • For geocode services using StreetMap Premium locators, ArcGIS Server is not licensed with and authorized to use StreetMap Premium to host geocode services.
  • The antivirus software is preventing the service from starting by blocking back-end processes.

Solution or Workaround

Republish the geocode service

Geocode services with outdated data sources can be republished to ArcGIS Server by overwriting and publishing the service from ArcGIS Pro. Refer to ArcGIS Pro: Overwrite a geocode service for instructions.

Install or authorize Esri StreetMap Premium on the ArcGIS Server machine

For federated servers, obtain and use the Authorization Number in the Software Authorization for ArcGIS Server Wizard. Refer to the diagram in ArcGIS StreetMap Premium: ArcGIS Enterprise (ArcGIS Server) for instructions.

Note:
ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Desktop must be licensed to publish StreetMap Premium geocode services. Refer to ArcGIS StreetMap Premium: StreetMap Premium licensing requirements for more information.

For standalone servers, refer to How To: Install an Esri StreetMap Premium license file on ArcGIS servers without ArcGIS for Desktop for instructions.

For geocode services published from ArcGIS Business Analyst, the StreetMap Premium North America extension must be authorized for ArcGIS Server to host these geocode services. Refer to ArcGIS Business Analyst: Authorizing the geocoding data for ArcGIS Enterprise for instructions.

Add exceptions to the antivirus software

Ensure the proper exceptions are in place for all the ArcGIS Enterprise directories. Refer to FAQ: Which ArcGIS Enterprise directories should be excluded for security or antivirus software? for more information on antivirus exceptions.

Note:
For further information regarding ArcGIS Enterprise deployments and antivirus software, refer to Esri Technical Paper: Considerations for configuring antivirus software for ArcGIS Enterprise hosts.
