The ArcMap title bar does not reflect the current ArcGIS seat type

This article applies to retired ArcGIS versions 8.x. Later versions of ArcGIS may contain different functionality, as well as different names and locations for menus, commands and geoprocessing tools.

The ArcMap title bar does not reflect the current ArcGIS seat type when using the environment variable ESRI_SOFTWARE_CLASS. The title bar always shows the seat type selected during installation.

Cause

This is a known issue.

Workaround

This issue is resolved at ArcGIS 9.0.

To determine which seat type is currently selected, check the environment variable.
