DEPRECATION

ArcGIS Desktop Deprecation

Last Published: May 17, 2024

Description

ArcGIS Desktop (ArcMap, ArcCatalog, ArcScene, ArcGlobe, and ArcMap-based extensions) entered Mature Support on March 1, 2024, which marked the end of functionality-based software updates, patches, and hot fixes. ArcGIS Desktop will be deprecated on July 1, 2024, with no quotes for sales of additional licenses.

To provide our users with the best experience with our fully supported desktop GIS solution, we are focusing on ArcGIS Pro. This transition enables us to deliver enhanced features and comprehensive support.

The deprecation of ArcGIS Desktop and the cessation of quotes for additional licenses on July 1, 2024, will not immediately affect customers’ work. Customers with perpetual licenses will be able to continue using unsupported ArcGIS Desktop applications.

ArcGIS Desktop subscription licensees have received two operational emails and will get additional notifications 90 days before, 30 days before, and on their subscription end date. Subscription renewals will be for user types that give access to the equivalent ArcGIS Pro license level (basic, standard, or advanced). Access to ArcMap, ArcCatalog, ArcScene, ArcGlobe, and ArcMap-based extensions will end when the subscription expires.

ArcMap, ArcCatalog, ArcScene, ArcGlobe, and ArcMap-based extensions are included in this deprecation. While the ArcMap-based extensions are deprecated, the following extensions continue to be available for ArcGIS Pro:

  • ArcGIS 3D Analyst (includes ArcScene and ArcGlobe)
  • ArcGIS Data Reviewer
  • ArcGIS Data Interoperability
  • ArcGIS Geostatistical Analyst
  • ArcGIS Image Analyst
  • ArcGIS LocateXT
  • ArcGIS Network Analyst
  • ArcGIS Publisher
  • ArcGIS Spatial Analyst
  • ArcGIS Workflow Manager
  • ArcGIS Aviation Airports
  • ArcGIS Aviation Charting
  • ArcGIS Bathymetry
  • ArcGIS Defense Mapping
  • ArcGIS Maritime
  • ArcGIS Pipeline Referencing
  • ArcGIS Production Mapping
  • ArcGIS Roads and Highways

The following ArcGIS Desktop extensions are also deprecated and have their own deprecation plans. These are not available as extensions for ArcGIS Pro since their functionality has been incorporated into the core product:

  • ArcGIS Schematics
  • ArcGIS Tracking Analyst

Recommendation

ArcGIS Desktop perpetual license holders can continue using the included applications in the future. However, customers with subscription licenses should note that software access will cease when the subscription expires. Subscription renewal quotes will be for user types that include access to ArcGIS Pro. We recommend that customers move their desktop GIS workflows to ArcGIS Pro before ArcGIS Desktop is retired on March 1, 2026.
