hachure

URL copied Share URL
  1. [symbology] A short line on a map that indicates the direction and steepness of a slope. Hachures that represent steep slopes are short and close together; hachures that represent gentle slopes are longer, lighter, and farther apart. Contours, shading, and hypsometric tints have largely replaced hachuring on modern maps. Media/hachure.gif
