DEPRECATION
Esri is retiring two very old raster basemaps on May 4, 2022. If you are using one of these basemaps, Esri advises switching to the equivalent basemap in general availability.
Note: Once these basemaps are retired, they will no longer be available to use in maps and apps.
Retired basemap | Replacement basemap |
---|---|
ESRI_Imagery_World_2D | World_Imagery_WGS84 |
ESRI_StreetMap_World_2D | World Street Map (WGS84) |
ArcMap users will need to use World_Street_Map as a replacement, but note that this basemap is in Web Mercator.
The 2D basemaps were placed in mature support in 2016 and have not been updated. The replacement basemaps are updated regularly and have more worldwide coverage.

If you are unsure what basemap you are using in your web map, go to the item details page for the web map and look for the basemap in the Layers list.
